SEND IAS group support / training volunteers

We require Group Support / training volunteers to support SEND IAS Officers at training sessions with children, young people and parents.

Overview

The service identifies as early as possible when a child, young person or family needs support.

Tasks

  • Support and assist staff to run sessions and activities as required for the group

  • Help setting up the room for group work and tidying up afterwards

  • Help with building the confidence and motivational skills of the attendees.

  • Help with supporting children and young people with additional needs.

  • Help with refreshments if required

  • Log volunteering hours on line.

  • Patience, understanding, approachable and friendly

  • Non Judgemental

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Trustworthy

  • An ability to motivate and inspire others

  • Good Communication skills – Good Active Listener

  • Reliable and committed to providing long term volunteering support

Training

Volunteers must have completed the required eLearning training before any activity can be undertaken and may be asked to regularly refresh training where required.

Volunteers will be expected to complete IPSEA level 1 online and face to face legal training.

Who are we?

Every local authority in England has to provide an information, advice and support service for families who have a child or young person under the age of 25 with special educational needs or disabilities.

Who can we help?

Parents and carers of children and young people with SEND.

Young people with SEND (can be supported independently of their parents).

Parents and carers who are concerned that their child may have SEND, but have no diagnosis.
